ABADDON:  (Revelation 9:11)  "And they had a king over them, which is the angel of the bottomless pit, whose name in the Hebrew tongue is Abaddon, but in the Greek tongue hath his name Apollyon." 

ABOMINABLE BRANCH: (Isaiah 14:19)  "But thou art cast out of thy grave like an abominable branch, and as the raiment of those that are slain, thrust through with a sword, that go down to the stones of the pit; as a carcase trodden under feet.

ADVERSARY: (Psalm 74:8-10) "They said in their hearts, Let us destroy them together: they have burned up all the synagogues of God in the land. We see not our signs: there is no more any prophet: neither is there among us any that knoweth how long. O God, how long shall the adversary reproach? shall the enemy blaspheme thy name for ever?"

ANTICHRIST:   (1 John 2:22)   Who is a liar but he that denieth that Jesus is the Christ? He is antichrist, that denieth the Father and the Son. 

APOLLYON:  (Revelation 9:11)  "And they had a king over them, which is the angel of the bottomless pit, whose name in the Hebrew tongue is Abaddon, but in the Greek tongue hath his name Apollyon. 

ASSYRIAN:   (Isaiah 10:5)  "O Assyrian, the rod of mine anger, and the staff in their hand is mine indignation..." 

BEAST:   (Revelation 17:8)  "The beast that thou sawest was, and is not; and shall ascend out of the bottomless pit, and go into perdition: and they that dwell on the earth shall wonder, whose names were not written in the book of life from the foundation of the world, when they behold the beast that was, and is not, and yet is."

BRANCH OF THE TERRIBLE ONES:   (Isaiah 25:5)  "Thou shalt bring down the noise of strangers, as the heat in a dry place; even the heat with the shadow of a cloud: the branch of the terrible ones shall be brought low."

IDOL SHEPHERD:    (Zechariah 11:16-17)   "For, lo, I will raise up a shepherd in the land, which shall not visit those that be cut off, neither shall seek the young one, nor heal that that is broken, nor feed that that standeth still: but he shall eat the flesh of the fat, and tear their claws in pieces. Woe to the idol shepherd that leaveth the flock! the sword shall be upon his arm, and upon his right eye: his arm shall be clean dried up, and his right eye shall be utterly darkened."

KING OF BABYLON:  (Isaiah 14:40   "That thou shalt take up this proverb against the king of Babylon, and say, How hath the oppressor ceased! the golden city ceased!"

LITTLE HORN: (Daniel 7:8)  "I considered the horns, and, behold, there came up among them another little horn, before whom there were three of the first horns plucked up by the roots: and, behold, in this horn were eyes like the eyes of man, and a mouth speaking great things."

MAN OF SIN: (2 Thessalonians 2:3)  "Let no man deceive you by any means: for that day shall not come, except there come a falling away first, and that man of sin be revealed, the son of perdition;..."

MAN OF THE EARTH: (Psalms 10:18)  "To judge the fatherless and the oppressed, that the man of the earth may no more oppress. Israel."

PRINCE OF TYRE:   (Ezekiel 28:2)  Son of man, say unto the prince of Tyrus, Thus saith the Lord GOD; Because thine heart is lifted up, and thou hast said, I am a God, I sit in the seat of God, in the midst of the seas; yet thou art a man, and not God, though thou set thine heart as the heart of God:..."

PROFANE PRINCE OF ISRAEL: (Ezekiel 21:25)  And thou, profane wicked prince of Israel, whose day is come, when iniquity shall have an end,..."

SON OF PERDITION:  (2 Thessalonians 2:3)  "Let no man deceive you by any means: for that day shall not come, except there come a falling away first, and that man of sin be revealed, the son of perdition;..."

SPOILER:   (Isaiah 16:4)  Let mine outcasts dwell with thee, Moab; be thou a covert to them from the face of the spoiler: for the extortioner is at an end, the spoiler ceaseth, the oppressors are consumed out of the land."

VILE PERSON:  (Daniel 11:21)  "And in his estate shall stand up a vile person, to whom they shall not give the honour of the kingdom: but he shall come in peaceably, and obtain the kingdom by flatteries."

WICKED ONE:   (2 Thessalonians 2:8)  "And then shall that Wicked be revealed, whom the Lord shall consume with the spirit of his mouth, and shall destroy with the brightness of his coming:..."

WICKED PRINCE OF ISRAEL:   (Ezekiel 21:25)  And thou, profane wicked prince of Israel, whose day is come, when iniquity shall have an end,..." 

There are other descriptions throughout the Word of God concerning this man of sin.  The question is often asked "who is this man?"  I personally have my own thoughts and ideas and so do you, but I don't know who the Antichrist might be.

No one knows for sure.  It could very likely be someone alive right this moment and someday he will rise to power and cause more destruction to human beings than ever thought possible.  Many believe they know who it is or would recognize him instantly if they saw him, but consider this fact:  Hitler was at one point living in extreme poverty.  If you had walked by and had seen him, you would have never guessed he would someday threaten to take over the world. One thing is for certain, though:  when the time for the Antichrist comes, he will achieve great power.  Until then he could be just your ordinary everyday citizen.

Folks be careful how you look at the Antichrist.  We live in a day and age in which any influential and/or powerful man is likely to gain that title.  Perhaps it is lack of knowledge or willing ignorance of the scriptures that are the fault.   We still should not take this matter lightly.  Examine some of the people who have been called Antichrist over the years.  Some are amusing, some are rather serious.  ALL, however have been proven false. 

These are people who have been declared to be antichrist.  Some are quite amusing, others fit the personality type pretty well.  Among them are: 

The Roman Emperor Nero:  One of the first and one of the greatest persons to fit the role of Antichrist was Emperor Nero. He put many Christians to death, and even killed members of his own family. Nero's actions actually helped the Church to multiply faster. When he learned the Roman Senate was plotting against him, he died by poisoning himself.

The Pope: Just about every Pope has been given the title of Antichrist. The Pontiff is a favorite among Evangelicals. During the Middle Ages, when the power of the Pope was more pronounced, the title was more plausible. Today the political power of the Pope has long since passed. It's more likely the Pope would play the role of the "False Prophet" if he has any role at all in the end times.

Charlemagne: He lived from 742-814 AD and controlled much of central Europe. Charlemagne put himself into the shoes of the Antichrist by trying to rebuild the Roman Empire. This is a task that only the real Antichrist will accomplish. He died before achieving his goal.

Napoleon: Napoleon, like Charlemagne, worked at reviving the Roman Empire. The self-crowned French Emperor did not persecute the church, and he lacked a number of the qualities needed for the role of Antichrist. His downfall was that he loved war too much. 

Aleister Crowley: He was so evil his nickname was the Beast and 666. Aleister Crowley was a male witch that lived in England from 1875 to 1947. A number of rock and roll groups, like the Beatles, the Doors and Ozzy Ozbourne featured references to him in or on their albums.

Franklin Delano Roosevelt: The numerical value of FDR's name was reported to add up to 666 and because of the power of the office at the time, the Great Depression and World War II, he was the "target of choice" for Christian finger-pointers.

Benito Mussolini: Because Mussolini became the dictator of Italy, the original capital of the Roman Empire, he was the recipient of a great deal of commentary during his rule from 1922 to 1943. His extreme arrogance fit the role of antichrist, but his military capabilities were laughable. Italy needed help from Germany all throughout WWII.

Adolf Hitle:  Most people would describe Hitler as the most villainous man who ever lived. His hatred for Christians and especially for Jews was unparalleled.  He remains a ghastly demonic foreshadowing of what the real Antichrist will be like.

Joseph Stalin: Russian dictator Joseph Stalin is believed to be the greatest mass murderer of all time, killing 30 million people during his rule. Most of history's tyrants killed foreigners or those of another nation; Stalin specialized in killeing his own citizens.

John F. Kennedy:  As the nation's first Roman Catholic President, it was believed John F. Kennedy would do the Pope's bidding and that American would soon be all Catholic in its belief. At the 1956 Democratic convention, he received 666 votes which of course, brought more cries of his potential status as "Antichrist".   When Kennedy was assassinated in Dallas, several people sincerely expected and waited for this deadly wound to heal. Of course, it never happened.

King Juan Carlos of Spain:  When Spain became the 10th nation to join the European, the airwaves were filled on television and radio that he "must" be the Antichrist since he was "#10". 

Ronald Wilson Reagan:  Many believe that President Reagan was the antichrist.  The main reason always given was the fact that he had 6 letters in all 3 of his names.

Mikhail Gorbachev:  Gorbachev, the first Russian leader to support the rights of the people, has been and still remains a candidate for the job of Antichrist. Being Russian was one strike against him but many couldn't get past the birthmark upon his forehad.  Until Mr. Gorbachev dies, prophecy watchers will always have an eye on him.

Saddam Hussein:  Saddam has been looked on as the "Beast" of Daniel and Revelation for years. He has an interest in the old Empire of Nebuchadnezzar, he wishes to dominate the world and become a ruler of all.  He was certainly reminiscent of Hitler, but with his execution, I believe it is safe to say he is not the antichrist. 

Maitreya: A  New Age guru, who is said to be on this earth somewhere.  New Agers have watched and waited for him to appear since the mid 80's.  It is said he is just "waiting for his opportunity"  to come and save the world.

Yassir Arafat:  When Arafat signed the peace treaty with Israel in 1993, some thought that he was bringing to pass the prophecy regarding the Antichrist signing a peace treaty for 7 years with Israel. It is now 2007 and Arafat is dead.  

Louis Farrakhan:  Farrakhan has worked hard to earn the title of Antichrist: he's met with every Islamic dictator there is, and he's called the Jewish faith "A gutter religion," Farrakhan has said that Jesus was, "Just a prophet" and he, Louis Farrakhan, is the true Jesus.  The sad part is that he is deceiving young black men by the thousands and they are buying into the lies this man has propagated for years. Louis Farrakhan is NOT the spiritual leader his delusions of grandeur have led him to believe that he is.

William Jefferson Clinton:  Another American President is among a number of folks who have supposedly used biblical numerology to count the numbers of his name as 666.  Ol' Slick Willy isn't too far from the personality of one who 'could' become an Antichrist type  personality.

Bill Gates: If the Beast needs to be computer literate and financially well-off, then Bill Gates would be a good candidate, otherwise he is disqualified.

Jacques Chirac:  French President Jacques Chirac has been involved with a flurry of diplomatic activity. His high profile has caught the attention of several prophecy watchers, however, his lack of charisma lends doubt to any future following of Mr. Chirac.

One of the most amusing ones I have ever heard was a claim that Barney the Dinosaur was the Antichrist.  The reasoning was the mention of the "great red dragon" in the book of Revelation.  Imagine such a belief! 

There have been countless other claims and fingers pointed.  One thing is certain, however.  Whoever this man is, the whole world will know him at some future time.
